Immigration matters in Canada
Canada
is one of the best humanitarian country for immigrants and refugees. The
history of Canadian immigrations is not only the orderly population growth but
also economic development as well as Canadian attitudes and values. In fact,
the modern Canada has been built on the migration and contributions of many
immigrant groups, beginning with the first French settlers, through newcomers
from the United Kingdom, Central Europe, the Caribbean and Africa, to
immigrants from Asia and the Middle East. Right now, 300,000 new immigrants
have been welcomed by Canada annually.
During
the Covid pandemic, the number of new immigrant decrease dramatically. Canada
welcomed only 184000 new immigrants in 2020 which fell to the lowest level
since 1998. If the world situation did not change, immigrants number will not
be up to the target.
Canada
is also one of the prominent humanitarian country in the world. It has a
history of receiving refugee from all over the word. The number of refugee
claim was also decreased during the pandemic. As per the government statistics,
23875 people did the refugee claimant in 2020 whereas it was 64040 in 2019. So
far, only 7005 people did the refugee claim in 2021 (From Jan to Jun). There is
also decreasing trend in refugee claimant. As on 31 March 2021, Canada have
136600 pending claims. Canada have also undocumented immigrant of around
120000. So, the total number of pending claims and undocumented immigrants are
256600 (approx.).
People
who have failed pending claims, may be waiting for over 3 to 10 years or more.
They already know the Canadian cultures and values. Although their claims did
not meet the Canadian Standard, they never stop their contribution towards the
Canadian. Many families are also raising Canadian babies for future Canada.
They are used to working hard and trying their best to create a tie with Canada
as they can be granted PR under Humanitarian & Compassionate ground.
People
who don’t have documents in Canada, have also been living in Canada years after
years. They also know the Canadian value and Canadian culture. They came in Canada
for the better life and better future. Although they can not contribute to
Government directly by tax, they are serving Canadian for maintaining their day
to day life. They are also not entitled for any Canadian benefits except the
emergency treatment.
Undocumented
and failed refugee claimants have been suffering a lot year after year for
their uncertain life. Covid pandemic makes them depressed mentally &
physically more. Deporting them during pandemic may be deadly for all
individual. On the other hand, deporting people (during the pandemic) really do
not match with the history of Canadians’ humanitarian and compassionate value.
Canada
could not fill up their immigrants’ target in 2020. It will be also difficult
in 2021 too. If Canada give the PR status these 256600 people with any conditions,
these failed refugees & undocumented people will not let Canada down. In
fact, they can give their 100% abilities to the Canadian Government for building
the greatest Canada.
